The culture of the Il Laikipiak Maasai evolved through centuries of interaction with the landscapes within which we found ourselves. In our journeys we encountered the lives & yearnings of numerous species. This provoked, in our cultural conscience, an instinct for interconnectedness with all life forms, a value for tolerance & co-existence. The Il Laikipiak Maasai, being a pastoral people, are sensitive to the provisions of the earth allowing what is now fashionably known as conservation to become the
ethos we lived, breathed & expressed.

Close to the lodge is the Maasai Cultural Manyatta where you can learn about traditional Maasai practices such as hunting with a disguised donkey, animal traps using local natural poisons, honey
gathering, elaborate beadwork & ancient games. The dancing of the Moran warriors and girls cannot fail
to leave you with a lasting memory of the color and vibrancy of Maasai culture. We also give you a
brief but informative presentation on any aspect of the Il Ngwesi culture, history & origins as well
as the current challenges in the local community.
